FOOD Project is an initiative launched by the Edenred group in Europe.

The FOOD project (Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand) is a European multi-partner initiative (that includes public and private Universities) with the goal of promoting balanced nutrition to employees, promoting search and demand of healthy eating.

Edenred Portugal has been a part of this project since its beginning in 2012, in cooperation with the Directorate-General of Health (DGS). In the scope of the FOOD project, Edenred Portugal and DGS have developed a manual entitled “Intelligent eating – eat better, save more”. This manual, which focuses on promoting good eating practices and habits, was awarded with the 2013 Nutrition Awards, in the Mobilization Initiative category.

You can download the manual in .pdf format, or access its digital version, by clicking on the image below (Portuguese only):

The project also includes recommendations for restaurant managers and employees, to promote informed offer and demand. (link)

After the publication of these contents, a “FOOD Restaurant Certification” project was launched, to check if the 12 recommendations for restaurants were followed. In order to be certified as a “FOOD Restaurant”, an establishment must follow at least 10 out of the 12 recommendations, and sign a protocol committing to implement them.

This certification gives the consumer the information of which restaurants are compatible with healthy eating.

To find out which restaurants have the “FOOD Certification” in Portugal, access the restaurant locator (link).
